naran ji arc
ARC004
Created to complement our naran ji hand range, the arc is the result of meticulous craftsmanship. Layers of tonal handmade glass are laboriously fired and formed in Cornwall to fill it with glorious light and movement. Pure glass artistry.
Size: 11.52 oz
Based in Cornwall, our designer was drawn to the fluid and organic nature of a process which produces abstract pieces of glass with more than just a surface quality. Kiln forming is a difficult and challenging process and requires special glasses which are compatible.
Each layer of handmade glass goes through a number of treatments to create the finished piece. Layers of leaf, mint and marine are first placed on to a bed of clear glass which acts as an open canvas. It is then fired for 24 hours to a temperature of about 900 degrees. This process has to be controlled to the minute: if it is held for too long the glass becomes fluid and will run like liquid; if it isn't held for long enough it will retain a sharpness. A mould is then produced so that the glass can undergo a second firing to form the arc.
The finished product has its own individual characteristics and not one piece is identical.
