Job Summary :

Lead all elements of packaging design for the brand, from conception and structural design to artwork delivery, creating packaging solutions that are in line with our luxury brand positioning and inspire consumers to purchase and enhance perceptions of innovation and prestige.

Manage the artworker to successfully answer packaging briefs generated within the stage and gate process that are in line with brand strategy and commercial targets.

Drive the development and maintenance of the brand across all packaging, ensuring effective positioning of key brand equities to elevate the brand and establish a Molton Brown style which is recognised and ownable.

Act as guardian of the brand, by ensuring all elements of brand equity are used in a manner that is appropriate, consistent and always in line with the aspirations as outlined in the brand and design
strategies.

Collaborate and liaise with the New Product Development, Project Management and Technical Packaging teams to establish, understand and answer creative requirements from the business.

Drive the packaging team to deliver excellent quality design work, on time and on budget to ensure the success of Molton Brown’s business growth across multi-channels, globally.

Key Responsibilities

1) The creation of aspirational packaging solutions for Molton Brown products which are:

a) in line with and elevate the brand positioning

b) complete in their consideration of structural as well as surface graphics

c) answer and often deliver beyond the expectation of the brief

d) inspire consumer purchase.

2) Manage the artwork resource to ensure that:

a) work is scheduled according to project timelines

b) projects are delivered on brand and on time

c) artwork is accurate and delivered according to requirements.

3) Manage, develop and coach the artworker to deliver excellent results and ensure a motivated and valued team. Set SMART objectives and clear KPI’s for all activities, drive individual performance, creative excellence and processes which create an environment of fast paced, exciting, creativity within which people are effective and efficient.

4) Liaise with Visual Merchandising and the Store Design teams to ensure packaging solutions are practical and can be implemented efficiently and successfully.

5) Act as brand guardian and manage the use of the Molton Brown name, logo, marks, visual identity and key equities across packaging design.

6) Work with the Technical Packaging team, printers and suppliers to ensure that creative solutions are realised to their full potential, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and the ability to drive production to ensure that the final product is delivered to the highest standards in line with our luxury positioning. This includes on-press approval and the review of samples and artwork.

7) Work as part of the product development team to realise business requirements for packaging development and realisation. Participate in regular product development meetings to ensure all parties are informed of project progress and work as part of the team to drive development forward.

8) Brief and manage the photography of products, ensuring that they answer the needs of all teams, in particular, New Product Development and Ecommerce.

9) Drive the implementation of new ways of working within the team, following processes established by the Senior Manager, Creative Services.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • A relevant design degree.
  • Experience of working in luxury packaging within the beauty industry with a strong portfolio, which demonstrates a passion for the sector and the discipline. Work should be creatively inspiring and show the ability to evolve both structures and surface graphics from conception through production to realisation. These skills will sit alongside a sound working knowledge of print processes and how to achieve them.
  • A meticulous eye for detail and colour with experience of reviewing and assessing pre-production samples as well as a strong history of press passing.
  • Excellent visualisation skills and a comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience of creating and reviewing artwork with a good working knowledge of the process and disciplines involved.
  • Line management and workflow management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to manage a heavy workload and have excellent organisational and time management skills.

DESIRABLE

Experience of briefing and working with product photographers.

Essential Job responsibilities

1- Category strategy

Support Senior Category Manager by providing relevant and actionable insights to help develop and manage strategy for their assigned sub-categories – insights should be generated through knowledge and review of market trends, consumer needs and commercial objectives of the Molton Brown business.

Consumer insight – develop an intuitive understanding of target consumer attitudes, behaviours and needs, both now and in the future, to feed into decision making. Gather data & formalise strategic insights from a variety of sources from market research, trends analysis, desk research, observation to build a holistic picture of the consumers’ life and in relation to assigned categories.

Competitor - develop a comprehensive understanding of assigned categories and the key competitors there. Keep abreast of competitor actions, ensuring internal visibility of implications for Molton Brown.

2- Category Innovation

Supports Senior Category Manager in NPD projects from initial identification of potential market opportunities to product launch.

Work with Senior Category Manager to recommend innovation opportunities that are based on a sound understanding of our brand positioning, market potential, portfolio and business requirements ; Sales/Margin/Units etc

Responsible for the day to day management of their NPD projects within the Kaihatsu process – coordinating & tracking their projects from brief to launch in market. Responsibility includes delivery on time, on brief (formula/pack) as well as commercial viability (COG/Price/Margin/Volume forecasting).

Review assortment to ensure it stays one step ahead of competitors as well as being relevant to consumer and customer through our key brand equities of colour, fragrance blend, exoticism and luxury

3- Category Operational Marketing

Understand and track key drivers of portfolio performance, including financials, marketing KPIs and competitor performance.

Work with Creative Services to develop the Global Marketing toolkit of support items needed for local marketing to sell the Molton Brown story and products successfully e.g. presentations, product information, and sales aids for trade….others that are consumer facing , shelf story etc.

Support markets (UK, US, Australia, GAS, Nordics) & trade channel needs/requests (SAS, On line, Hotel, Travel retail) & develop specific assets requested validated by Senior Category Manager.

4- Category activation through NPD-led events

Works with Senior Category Manager to develop the event story-telling theme and to drive event creative assets development accordingly.

Supports Senior Category Manager with the development and roll-out of the brand support package across channels and ensure the support materials support our brand positioning.

Take part in activation meeting with other functions to understand how to ensure consistent consumer activation through every touch points (in store, PR, on line, CRM) & channels.

Provide Senior Category Manager with post-analysis reports of events commercial results against KPIs set & best practice building.

5- Measurement & KPIs

Responsible for a range of performance KPIs of assigned categories.

Supports the Brand manager with review of current assortment performance and range, to stay one step ahead of competitors as well as being relevant to consumer and customer through our key brand equities of colour, fragrance blend, exoticism and luxury

3- Category Operational Marketing

Provide reports to monitor key drivers of portfolio performance, including financials marketing KPIs and competitor performance.
