Job Summary
Work within the stage gate (Kaihatsu) development process to manage and accomplish the new product development packaging for all areas of the business for example e-commerce & Hotel. Working in R&D development and taking the lead in key packaging developments team collaborating with other matrix partners within Molton Brown organisation. Working with the wider R&D Technical Packaging team to ensure that all component testing, packaging compatibility testing, filling specifications, packaging specifications (provisional & final) to ensure that we meet & exceed the needs of our internal & external partners in delivering Molton Brown’s unique luxury beauty products across the globe.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage key packaging development projects through each stage of the Kaihatsu process including feasibility study using FMEA tools, schedule management, quality control, documentation and distribution, working closely with the other departments in Molton Brown such as Creative Services, Product Development Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Planning, Project Management, Quality, Production departments and also 3rd party suppliers & contractors.

Provide the technical packaging solutions which meeting the brief from Creative Services & Product Development Marketing teams. Packaging options must meet intention, quality, cost and timeline. And as a result realize the package which exceeds customer’s expectations.

Coach & mentor the packaging development team through training and empowering each member of the team. And foster a stimulating and productive culture and build the good working relationship within the team and the wider-team as well.

Investigate the potential suppliers for various packaging in the world regularly in conjunction with the Purchasing & Supply Chain teams. Build cooperative relationship with them and ascertain each supplier’s strength and weakness regardless of whether we do the actual business with them or not. Based on the comprehensive aspects about the internal and external resources, optimise the development process and pursuit the most effective operations continuously.
Skills required

Technical expertise - Senior Packaging Technologist must have a working knowledge of Injection molding, Injection stretch blow molding, extrusion blow molding, thermoforming, aerosol technology, flexographic print, offset, letterpress print, gravure print, silk screen print, bottle design, print design, repro, custom & prototype tooling. Must also be able to demonstrate a working knowledgeof chemical materials like resin, decorating technologies, paper/paperboard manufacturing, packaging equipment, distribution environment and testing protocols for packaging. The experience of plastic moulding or decorating technologies or paper/paperboard manufacturing in personal care product’s industry is preferable.

Project management skill - Senior Packaging Technologist must take leadership roles in each project and follow the defined testing protocols working closely with other internal departments and various external suppliers and create the mutual credibility among the relevant.

Communication skill - In order to establish a productive relationship with the members in the team, other departments in Molton Brown and all 3rd party suppliers, Senior Packaging Technologist must be able to listen with an open-mind and discuss potential hurdles offering proactive solutions to the problems and the details.

Manage in line projects for gift packs and stock items.

Update & maintenance of filling & packing specifications.

Compile and update filling and packing specifications for all new components / artwork with guidance from packaging team.

Follow up on detail of artwork amends, ensure codes are updated and artworks are changed and re-issued.

Help develop formal range files for new projects

To develop and carry out components testing e.g. leak testing, ink compatibility, drop tests

Ensure test records are established, maintained and archived for all projects.
