Top 5 Bathroom Trends For 2023

Hear From Interior Design Experts

As our homes have shape-shifted to suit hybrid lifestyles, the bathroom has evolved into more than a functional space – it’s become a hub of rejuvenation and self-care. And to help you uplift your interiors – whether you’ve planned an overhaul or touch-up – our expert friends are sharing their top trend predictions this year so you can stay ahead of the curve in your own bathroom.

A Spa-Inspired Color Scheme

It’s no surprise that the bathroom is seen as a wellness retreat for many. Charlotte Cropper, International Colour Consultant at sustainable decorating brand, Lick, says, ‘The bathroom is a personal sanctuary that encourages us to slow down and reconnect with ourselves.’ She advises a grounding, nature-inspired palette: ‘Think warm beiges, whites and pink based neutrals’ – the perfect scene for the ultimate Molton Brown spa ritual featuring exfoliating body scrubs, skin-softening body lotions and nourishing body oils.

What to avoid: total minimalism featuring pure white walls, ultra-modern cabinets and polished ceramic – calm no longer means clinical.

The Biophilia Bathroom

As we’ve grown to appreciate (read: depend on) the healing wonders of nature, this year is all about embracing a biophilic design, aka bringing the outside in. Complement your neutral color palette with lush surrounds of steam-loving plants such as orchids, snake plants and monsteras; the wilder the better, because yes, ‘jungle tranquility’ is a thing.

Try the trend: practice the Japanese art of forest bathing, but from the comfort of your own bathtub. Immersing yourself quietly among greenery while breathing deeply has the power to de-stress in the most natural, fresh way.

Maximalism In Mini Spaces

While the main bathroom is crowned your peaceful sanctum, it’s the downstairs washroom or ensuites where we can, as Charlotte suggests, ‘Really have some fun.’ Not only are these spaces used less frequently, they’re also smaller, which means they’re perfect areas to get creative and express your individuality.

Charlotte predicts ‘Color drenching, wall-to-ceiling maximalist botanical wallpaper, and mix and match tiles. Opt for beautifully bold hues like Red 03 and Green 08 or blossoming wallpaper like Electric Poppies 02.’ And, it’s a good thing our Hand Care and Bath sets feature vibrant shades to match this upbeat energy.

The Marble Revival

Marble is having bit of a moment. Reminiscent of classic, 5-star hotel bathrooms, marble lends opulence in the most effortless and timeless way. Etsy Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson, believes that ‘Marble offers brightness and dimension to a space. Shower features or statement basins are growing in popularity. In fact, we’ve seen a 183% increase in searches on Etsy for marble sinks.’ And if you’re not keen on a full installation, even a smaller accent like a soap dish makes a difference, as Dayna continues, ‘The beauty of marble is you can add varying amounts to add a luxe feel to your design’.

Directional Lighting

Dim the lights, run the water and… relax. Keeping in mind the importance of self-care this year, we’re sticking to a more considered approach to lighting. An overly bright space can feel exposed, harsh and unflattering. Instead, create soft, cozy pockets of glow for a gentle ambience that’ll ease you into your evening wind-down routine.
